We are excited to announce that Professor Claire Adida, a long-time faculty affiliate of IPL, will join the IPL team as a faculty co-director beginning in July. Claire has been appointed to the position of Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies (FSI) Senior Fellow at Stanford University. She will also hold the title of professor of political science (by courtesy), and teach courses in the Ford Dorsey Master’s in International Policy program.

Claire brings a wealth of expertise in immigration policy and ethnic politics, having conducted research in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, France, and United States. Her use of a wide range of methods, from field experiments to qualitative interviews, will be a tremendous asset in leading and supervising the diverse array of projects at IPL.

“We are thrilled to welcome Claire to the IPL and Stanford community,” said Duncan Lawrence, IPL’s Executive Director and Senior Research Scholar. “Claire’s collaborative approach and commitment to rigorous research will drive the growth of our research and impact in developing countries, which host the vast majority of the world’s refugees.”

Claire received her PhD in political science from Stanford University in 2010 and has published two books as well as numerous articles in a wide range of top journals including the American Political Science Review and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. She also has successfully led partnership-based research, which forms the cornerstone of IPL’s approach to impact.

“In just a few years, IPL has become a leader in evidence-based decision-making on migration policy. It is a privilege to join this group, and I hope to contribute to its growing impact,” shared incoming faculty co-director Claire Adida.
