About

Sun is a data scientist who joined IPL in October 2022 to work on NIH projects related to the health of immigrant families and children. As an expert in claims data analysis, she focuses on linking mothers and babies in 100% Medicaid claims data to identify disparities in health outcomes and healthcare utilization among immigrant families.

Sun earned her Ph.D. from Utah State University, where she was a Presidential Doctoral Research Fellow. Her formal training in quantitative demographic techniques, applied biostatistics, and statistical learning has provided her with a strong foundation in data analysis and predictive modeling. Sun has extensive experience in analyzing claims data, electronic health records, and survey data. As a lead analyst, she has contributed to many publications in high-impact journals, including JAMA Internal Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Chest.

Prior to joining IPL, Sun worked as a statistical scientist at UC Davis and UCSF, where she gained experience in data analysis and research. Currently, she also serves as a senior data lead at the Stanford Center for Population Health Sciences, where she manages large CMS claims data and ensures data quality.
