About
Lorena Avilés Trujillo is a Sociology PhD student and Knight-Hennessy Scholar at Stanford University. Her research interests are in international migration and black markets that meet human needs. She has previously conducted research on the migrant-smuggling system in the Mexico-US border and its relationship to formal and informal border entities. She is a Mellon Mays Undergraduate Research Fellow, National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, and Enhancing Diversity in Graduate Education Doctoral Fellow. Prior to Stanford, she graduated from Harvard College with a degree in Sociology and Ethnicity, Migration and Rights and worked on TED Conferences’ Curation Team, driving strategy, conducting DEI data analyses, and researching content.
